AUSTIN FAMILY STORIES
Amiee

I have two absolute memorable memories of Granny which happened at two different times in my life.

The first I was in about the 5th to 7th grade and Granny and Grandpa came into town and Joyee and I went home with them to Big Lake to help Granny with a garage sale. The night we arrived which was the night before the sale we helped Granny set everything up; pulling things out of boxes and pricing things. I pulled out an 8 track Julio Inglesias and said "Granny how much?". She looked over at me and said "OH honey, that is the sexiest man alive, I love him but $3....hopefully nobody will buy it and Grandpa will let me keep it". Joyee and I looked at each other as if saying hmmmm ok and kept on working.
Well nobody bought that 8 track and that evening after Grandpa came home and we ate and cleaned up we went to sit on the porch as Granny re-evaluated what was there and the prices. I remember Granny saying "Oh my sexy man you stayed because you love me!" Again Joyee and I looked at each other thinking hmmmmmmm. Joyee and I continued to play and when we went back to where Granny and Grandpa were we heard Mexican music playing, Granny and Grandpa sitting in lawn chairs on the porch, both with beers in one hand and a cigarette in the other. I remember Joyee and I looked at each other with the same expression but not saying anything. Later that night as we were all going to bed Joyee and I looked up at each other and whispered "Did you see Granny was drinking a beer AND smoking??!!!!!" We were so completely shocked and somewhat devastated by seeing that! I never looked at Granny the same again, but felt like I held a secret that nobody else knew and treasured it completely!!

The other memory was when Melody was born. Granny and Micki came to visit and see 'lil miss' and were sitting beside me on the couch holding and looking at Melody. They were talking to her and telling me how beautiful she was and how much she looked like me.
About that time Charlie and Carson showed up to meet his sister and saw Granny holding Melody. Carson climbed on the bed to give me a hug (as I insisted) and whispered in my ear "what is SHE doing with her"? I answered, who...what? Carson replied in my ear "THAT IS MY GRANNY GRANNY...WHY IS SHE HOLDING HER?" I laughed and said "um no Carson that is both of your Granny Granny...she is your sister and you have to share." I will never forget the dumbfounded look on his face as he looked at me realizing that life would never be the same with HUGE tears in his eyes and collapsed in my chest saying "No mom, that is my Granny Granny, she can't have her too" completely sobbing and unknowing of just how much life was about to change!

So there are 2 of my most ultimate favorite memories involving Granny!

I love you so dearly!!
