Granny Vertie is an amazing lady. I live roughly 350 miles away but still find the time to go see her at least once a year at the family reunion. I look forward to going to the family reunion every year to go swimming, fishing, play washers, play poker and catch up with the family I do not get to see very often. But, I think the biggest thing I look forward to is to see, what I feel, is the "queen" of the family. I really look up to her because I know her childhood was rough (to put it mildly) and to see the wonderful woman she is now amazes me. Although I live so far away she never forgets or misses anything that has to do with our lives. When my wife and I had our first child, Ian Curtis Fulks, she sent a hand made blanket to Kelli's baby shower. I think it is awesome the my son will always have a hand made blanket from his GREAT GREAT GRANDMOTHER. I know she has done the same thing for my sister's two kids, Eli James Childre and Dylan Webb Childre, as well.
Another memory I have is going to Granny's house in San Angelo when I was a child and running around playing in her back yard. She had a big back yard with lots of open room to run and play. I also, remember hunting Easter eggs in the backyard. We always stayed in the guest room that was just right of the front door and I will never forget waking up to the smell of her making breakfast in the morning.
I know a lot of history about my family due to my dad's extensive research on our family genealogy but, in my eyes, Granny will always be the beginning of my great and wonderful family.
I love you,
Curt
