Vertie welcomed me with open arms the first time I met her and the whole family over 4 years ago at the annual ornament exchange. Everyone was very kind and welcoming, all 50 plus people. That Christmas, she hand made me a beautiful blanket. It made me cry like a "titty baby" as Ken would say.
She has been my second mom, my friend, and a great travel companion with Wanda!
She is so fun and intoxicating to be around!.
One of the things I love about Texans is the southern accent. It's my favorite! Not English accents or Australian, I love southern accents. The way things are pronounced catches me off guard. One morning we were having breakfast at Wanda's house and Vertie was telling us a story about one of Wanda's friends that lives in Del Rio. While Vertie was telling the story, she said, "pegres negres" and just kept talking.
I thought "What??? What is that??"
It sounded like she said, "pigs and negras".
"OMG!! Did she just say that?"
Apparently, it's a town in Old Mexico.
I love Vertie! She is a beautiful human being. She has turned out a wonderful family of amazing, loving people! I feel very fortunate to have two families, (Of course, the Texas one is a little bigger!)
Love always
David
